ReadME for iOS · Last updated 4 October 2026
The short version: your documents never leave your iPhone. ReadME has no servers and no accounts. The one thing in the app that uses the network is the banner ad at the bottom of the screen, served by Google.
What we collect
Nothing ourselves. We do not collect, store, transmit or sell personal information, usage data or the contents of your documents. The one exception is the banner ad: Google collects some information to show it, as described under Advertising.
How your documents are handled
PDFs and screenshots you open are read entirely on your device. Summaries, dates, to-dos, booking details and answers to your questions come from Apple Intelligence running on your iPhone, and scanned pages are turned into text with Apple's on-device text recognition. We never receive, see or store any document, and neither does Google.
A PDF shared to ReadME from another app is deleted from the app's storage as soon as it is opened. Nothing you read is kept after you close it.
Permissions the app asks for
- Reminders — to add a to-do from a document when you tap Create Reminder. iOS only offers full access to Reminders; the app only adds to it.
- Calendar — to add a date from a document when you tap Add to Calendar. You see and confirm the event in Apple's own editor before it is saved.
Choosing screenshots or a PDF uses Apple's system pickers, which hand the app only the files you pick. The app is never given access to the rest of your library or your files.
Advertising
ReadME shows a banner ad at the bottom of the screen, provided by Google AdMob. It sits below your document, never on top of it, and Google is never sent anything from the document. To serve and measure the ad, Google's SDK collects information such as your IP address, device type, operating system, app version and ad interactions. Google handles that data under its own privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
ReadME does not ask for permission to track you, so the ad SDK cannot read your device's advertising identifier. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, you are asked for consent before any ad is requested, and no ad is requested if you decline.
Third parties
Google AdMob, for the banner ad described above. No analytics SDKs, no crash reporters, nothing else that phones home.
Children
ReadME is not directed at children, and its ads are not targeted at them.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
